This round, full bodied and incredibly creamy red wine is a deep, opaque purple and exudes aromas of lavender, blueberry and bacon smoke. Flavors of forest fruits, black pepper and toasted oak. Bootleg's Prequel, which was released two years after its sister wine Bootleg Red Blend, tells the story of events preceding those pictured on Bootleg's label—a ""Prequel"" so to speak. Like Bootleg, Prequel Red Wine embraces unconstrained winemaking. But while Bootleg focuses on the Napa Valley, Prequel captures the best of Sonoma County in each blend. This year's blend of Syrah and Petit Sirah was fermented in closed-top stainless steel tanks, before aging for 21 months in 37% new French oak and 1% new American oak. This substantial, yet supple wine is superb on its own but could elevate a variety of dishes to next-level status.
